About
-
Save S13 green belt is a grassroots community campaign dedicated to protecting the precious green spaces in Sheffield's S13 area — particularly those at risk from large-scale housing developments proposed under the city's Local Plan.
❓Why we're here
-
The Sheffield Local Plan includes proposals to remove Green Belt protections from several sites across the city, including significant areas in S13.
Notably, the SES30 site is earmarked for 868 new homes, while the SES29 site, less than 400m away, proposes 870 homes.
This is a double-whammy for Handsworth: we lose all our green belt and face increased traffic congestion, infrastructure strain and pressure on local health services.
🤝 What We Stand For
-
We understand the need for new housing, but it should be fairly distributed.
We believe that our green belt land should be preserved for future generations.
Green belt provide essential benefits, including:
🐾 Natural habitats for wildlife
☀️ Spaces for recreation and mental well-being
🛡️ Protection against urban sprawl
♻️ Opportunities for sustainable urban planningOur campaign advocates for the use of brownfield sites and more equitable distribution of housing developments across Sheffield, rather than concentrating them in areas like S13.
