Killing the Planet Through the Back Door

Who changed the rules of Green Belt Land?

Who did not know of Nature's hand?

Who never walked in fields of corn, where skylarks

Chatter way up high, above the fields, above the heath,

What beauty lies down there beneath?

Who did not feel the summer breeze, as cornfields ripple like a sea,

with blood-red poppies in between?

Who never walked on trodden paths, to the babbling

Brook, in the dappled shade of ancient trees,

Where Robins curiously flit with ease,

And wildflowers claim their home to please?

How could it be, this land be raped,

to provide houses for a new Government's sake?

A home for whom? A "Green Campaigner",

Quite happy to steal this spot from nature–

Who'll plant a tree amongst Astro Turf

And claim they are doing their bit for Planet Earth!

Swifts arrive to their sacred land,

But who has dealt this evil hand,

And scarred the face of Nature's land?

Nowhere for them to feast above,

And screech and play in sound array.

No fields. No trees. No age-old ease

Where nature helped our planet breathe.

Just concrete for the rain to pour

And flood our neighbours right next door.

Who will let our planet breathe?

The ones who are not full of greed–

The ones who gave their rubber stamp

To build on Greenbelt, untouched land–

Laze happily in their world today,

Whilst Mother Nature is ripped away.

But Mother Nature is shrewd and cruel,

So Mother Nature has her say,

Enraged with what he's done today

And so, she takes it ALL away!

Just another tree in the Amazon

Just another field in the UK

Just one more........... . . . .0
