Final Chance to Save Sheffield's Green Belt

Sheffield Council plans to release almost all of S13's Green Belt for development. This is now the final consultation before the Plan can be adopted.

The Government Inspectors are consulting on the Main Modifications - the final proposed changes to the Sheffield Plan.

Two of those modifications would formally insert major Green Belt developments into the Plan, including the sites affecting S13.

The deadline has now been extended to 5pm on Tuesday 5 May 2026 after consultation documents were updated again during the process.

That is why we are launching a city-wide petition.

Download and print the petition - collect signatures from friends, family and neighbours, or sign it online.

1. Why Is There Another Consultation?

Many people are understandably confused. There have now been several separate consultations on the Sheffield Plan.

1️⃣ May/June 2025: whether Green Belt sites could be added to the Plan.

2️⃣ Nov/Dec 2025: a further consultation after key evidence was published late.

3️⃣ Now: the final Main Modifications consultation before adoption.

This current deadline was extended because documents were updated again during the consultation.

2. Why Are We Using A Petition?

The Main Modifications consultation is narrow and technical. Even experienced readers can struggle to work out exactly what can and cannot be commented on.

Rather than expecting every resident to work through dense planning documents, this petition lets people support a clear, collective message to the Inspectors.

It is simple, focused, and shows how many people across Sheffield oppose unnecessary Green Belt release.

3. What Will Happen To The Petition?

The petition will be submitted to the Government Inspectors as part of the Sheffield Green Belt Alliance response to the Main Modifications consultation.

It will become part of the official examination record.

By gathering signatures from across the city, we can show that opposition to Green Belt loss is not limited to one street or one neighbourhood.

Every signature strengthens that message.

4. What Do We Need You To Do?

The most useful thing you can do is download and print a copy of the petition form and collect a few signatures from friends, family or neighbours.

Even one sheet with five or ten names helps show the strength of feeling across Sheffield.

If you cannot collect paper signatures, you can still sign the petition online and share the page with others.

5. Need A Paper Copy?

If you do not have access to a printer, you can:

Completed paper petition forms can be returned to the same locations above.

You can also sign the petition online if that is easier.

6. This Is A Sheffield-Wide Effort
Sheffield Green Belt Alliance

This campaign is not just about one neighbourhood.

Groups across the city are working together in the Sheffield Green Belt Alliance to oppose unnecessary Green Belt loss.

The petition page is currently hosted on the wider campaign website used by groups in Chapeltown, Ecclesfield and Grenoside.

Together we can show the Inspectors that this matters across the whole city.

7. Why Does This Matter Now?

The consultation deadline is 5pm on Tuesday 5th May 2026.

This is the last public consultation before the Plan goes to a council vote and the Inspectors write their final report.

If people switch off now, this version of the Plan moves forward.

This is the final chance to speak up for Sheffield's Green Belt.

Please sign the petition, print a copy if you can, and ask others across the city to do the same.
